One of Bruce Springsteen’s most haunting albums is being revisited in a new documentary from Thom Zimmer entitled, ““The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town”. The film was recorded from 1976-1978 as Bruce worked on his follow up to Born To Run. The documentary featuring recording sessions and rehearsals will debut at the Toronto Film Festival on September 14th. “Darkness” included classic Springsteen tracks like “The Promised Land”. “Badlands”, “Racing in the Street”, and the title track “Darkness on the Edge of Town”. At that juncture in his career, Springsteen still wrote with the Romanticism he displayed on Born To Run, but the tone of his songwriting definitely got “darker” for lack of a better word. The title track is a great example of The Boss’ songwriting at its best. The song’s heartbreaking story of how a man becomes homeless is one of his best. Plenty of Springsteen fans will be patiently awaiting the DVD release of new doc later this year.

Bruce Springsteen is going to perform in a benefit concert on May 7th at the Count Basie Theater in New Jersey. The concert is named as “An Evening with Bruce Springsteen” and the collection from the show will go to the expenses for renovating and restoring the Count Basie Theater. The concert fans can get the tickets for the benefit show through an online auction called “Make Your Best Offer” that has started from March 20th.

The CEO of the Count Basie Foundation, Rusty Young said that the members of the foundation are happy and excited to get Bruce Springsteen as the performer for its benefit concert and he also appreciated the enthusiasm showed by Springsteen in helping them to preserve the theater. Other programs as well as operations like the “Cool School” will also benefit from this concert. The historic theater can be renovated and preserved if the concert fans support the good cause of the event.

Bruce Springsteen is back on tour! The latest tour brings a hundred years old hits from myriad genres to the live stage. On his last tour, the performer was accompanied by the seventeen-member Seeger Sessions Band, and the wealth of folk, gospel, bluegrass, and jazz performers. Drawing influence from the man featured in the 2006 record title, the music oozed homage to Seeger, and beautiful compositions like “Old Dan Trucker” and “Eyes on the Prize.”
