George Russell was one of the best jazz players in the world and was a pioneer of modal jazz. He passed away this weekend of Alzheimers Disease. He was never a famous musician in the public world, but he was one of the most influential in the jazz world. This musician has been well-known over the course of many years on the inside world of the music. Modal jazz was more simple than Bebop and allowed the musicians, like Miles Davis etc, to be more free and interesting in the way that they played. When we hear jazz now, you can often hear a lot of this modal style, though sometimes it gets combined with the regular kind of jazz too, in a great fusion. George Russell gave us some of the best jazz that we had ever heard and we certainly appreciate it.
