Minnesota Dance Theatre’s fall show at the Pantages Theater in Minneapolis last weekend was absolutely stunning. The diverse repertory that spanned contemporary and classical works was both thrilling and eye-opening. All the dancers artfully executed with magnificent spirit and personality. Caitlin Fitzpatrick, Sam Feipel, and Melanie Verna were at the core of the performance; they managed to reveal new performance depths in the often-bittersweet trio “Caitlin, Sam and Mel” by Joanie Smith. Melanie Verna’s dancing was so soft and sensitive that one could almost hear her limbs keening with emotions.

“So You Think You Can Dance”, the new Fox reality show, is a less heralded younger sibling of a more mature counterpart “American Idol.” While the popular “American Idol” hauls in the headlines and hoopla, the “Dance” show has become a summer powerhouse of its own; it is the top-ranked summer program among 18- to 49-year-olds. The tour, featuring this season’s final ten, boogies its way to the Gwinnett Arena tonight. The 2-hour live performance will feature the dancers reprising their best shows from television, plus plenty of group combos and solos.
